Inscriptions constitute one of the most important sources for reconstructing ancient Indian history and culture. Ancient India made remarkable contributions to the intellectual, philosophical, scientific, religious, literary, and artistic traditions of human civilization. An understanding of the history of human civilization, therefore, remains incomplete without a serious engagement with the Indian past.
